Insurance should make sense.

Most drivers find out what insurance costs only after handing over their details to get a quote. By then it's hard to tell whether the number is fair.

Insura works the other way round. Answer a few questions, see a realistic range, and see exactly which answers moved it.

Your rate is personal.

  1. 01

    Where you live

Claims, repair costs, weather and state law all differ by place. Two identical drivers in two states can see very different prices.

  2. 02

    What you drive

A car that costs more to repair or replace costs more to insure. Age, body style and drivetrain all play a part.

  3. 03

    How you drive

Your age, your record and the miles you cover each year tell an insurer how likely a claim is.

Ten states to start. How each one handles fault, and who regulates insurers there.

Built around clarity.

An estimate is only useful if you can see how it was made. Insura publishes the whole model.

  • A range, never a single price

Insurers price the same driver differently, so one number would be false precision.

  • Every adjustment is published

The baseline and each multiplier the model uses are listed on the methodology page.

  • Assumptions are labelled as assumptions

Where Insura doesn't have citable data yet, it says so instead of filling the gap.

  • Your answers stay with you

The estimate is calculated in your browser. There's no account and nothing to sign up for.

Frequently asked questions.

Is this an insurance quote?

No. Insura gives an educational estimate based on a simplified, published model. Only an insurer or licensed agent can give you a quote, and actual premiums vary by insurer, location, coverage and underwriting factors.

How is the estimate calculated?

The model starts from a fixed reference point and adjusts it for six things: your state, your vehicle, your age, your annual mileage, your coverage and your driving history. It then widens the result into a range. Every adjustment is listed on the methodology page.

Do I need to give my SSN, name or email?

No. The calculator asks for a ZIP code, a vehicle, an age, a mileage figure, a driving history and a coverage level. It never asks for your name, email, Social Security number or driver's license.

What happens to the answers I enter?

They are used in your browser to calculate the estimate. Insura doesn't save them to an account or a database, and they are cleared when you leave the page.

Why is my actual premium different?

Insurers use many inputs this model leaves out, including your exact address, claims history, credit-based insurance score where permitted, discounts and their own pricing strategy. Treat the estimate as a starting point for comparing real quotes.

Does Insura sell insurance?

No. Insura doesn't sell insurance, isn't an insurer or an agent, and doesn't receive your details to pass to anyone.
